Choosing to rent apartments in Boston is a fantastic way to see this historic American city for a week-end or a longer trip. The largest city in New England, Boston is home to a number of distinct neighborhoods as well as outer cities like Cambridge and Somerville, each of which offers its own attitude, personality and style. Most people choose to visit Boston in the summer, given the proximity to the shore, or in the fall, when you can see the leaves of the trees burst into flame-colored hues and when vacation homes in Boston and the surrounding area are rented out by “leafers” who come up to New England every year to see this magical change.

Exploring Historic Boston
Historically, Boston was one of the most important cities in America. A hub of the American Revolution and the evolution of American democracy, Boston's history is one of its defining features. Be sure to walk the Freedom Trail through Boston, a pedestrian trail allowing you to see some of the most important sites and buildings of the Revolutionary period, such as the old State House, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere's House, and the Old North Church. An excellent time to visit Boston if you're interested in its history is on the 4th of July, when a host of different events are planned in the city, culminating with a Boston Pops concert along the Charles River.
Where to Shop in Boston
Boston is a great city for shopping. It boasts a great deal of variety; all you have to do is choose a neighborhood, which means you may want to identify the kind of shopping you like before seeking out vacation rentals in Boston. Newbury Street is a great choice for high-end shopping, with eight blocks of boutiques. For a more quaint shopping experience, try Charles Street between Beacon and Cambridge Streets, where you'll be able to do some lovely strolling as you shop. Just outside Boston, in the Harvard Square area of Cambridge, you'll find some more affordable and trendy choices, and accommodations here are far more reasonable, as many of the rooms for rent are let out to students at nearby Harvard University. You may even be able to find entire house rentals this far out of the city center, and the T underground system will allow you to reach all of the other sights in Boston proper.
Eating in Boston
With its proximity to the shore and to the farmland of New England, Boston is a great place to try fresh, local food. Quincy Market is a great place to start, with a number of food stalls from local providers. For more of a farmer's market feel, try the Boston Public Market, which is opened year-round. Restaurant-wise, while you'll find a good deal of seafood-focused American cuisine in Boston, a variety of ethnic cuisines are also represented in the patchwork of the city. One of the most perennial, however, is the Italian cuisine of the North End.
